Foundation for our Manufactured Home
So things are starting to happen. Yes, finally!
Today the dirt pad was leveled which is the first stage of prepping for the foundation.
There are several ways to secure your mobile home:
Dirt pads, and Pier and beams with straps are the most common way to secure a mobile home.
You can also have your home placed on a Concrete pad, or concrete runners in addition to the pier and beams with tie downs for an even stronger foundation. I chose the concrete runners.
These are Hud Approved foundations and have to pass an inspection. (This of course gave me more peace of mind).
For the runners, They dig 9 trenches that are 12-24 feet deep, and fill them with concrete. The depth of the concrete differs depending on the frost lines in your area. The way I understand it is: The concrete has to go deep enough to avoid the soil freezing beneath concrete footing.
The concrete runners, along with the pier and beam and straps is to help prevent the home from lifting incase of a bad wind storm or really bad tornado. Sounds great, but I won’t know cuz I won’t be in there!! I’m getting a storm shelter built! More on that later!
So there is the run down on this step, House being dropped off tomorrow!
