It’s Happening

We made our first step towards our simple life. We put our house on the market, and started looking for land in the country! I decided to begin looking in counties with the lowest tax rates, as the one we currently lived in is the highest in the state. Taxes in our area had tripled within the last 2 years. When we first moved into our home it was considered “far out”, it was a good 40 minutes away from our closest family members. But it was so nice and calm, there were a lot of fields, and cows! We even had an active train that really set the small town mood that I grew up with, and to top it off the house was beautiful and spacious. It was perfect for my disabled husband who is in a wheelchair, it was perfect for us. We loved it!

However, the small neighborhood/town quickly changed as people began moving in from out of state in droves! The roads became busier, they were building more and more homes, more subdivisions began to go up around us and before long it was starting to resemble another North Texas neighborhood that we had recently lived in.

After a lot of prayer and contemplating I decided to place our house on the market. I knew I wanted to find a piece of land in the country. I want to live a simple life, and I want to be debt free. I don’t want a lot of stuff. I want land, a modest modern farm house(lol) a horse, a cow, and a couple goats! I had been looking non stop for land, with the help of a Realtor/Broker that specialized in brokering land purchase.. In the meantime, our house is on the market and getting a lot of attention. We were under contract in three days. Wow that was fast! Thankfully, by the time we received this offer we had found a piece of land, and the owner accepted our offer on it. When I tell you God was right on time with that one

After closing the sale on our suburban house, we had 8 days to move out! I can’t tell you how thankful I am to have my mother with me. Together she and I packed that house up and was out in under 6 days. We moved into an old rental in the country not far from the land we have under contract, and our new journey to the simple life was in motion.

I said I wanted to live in the country, well It’s happening! lol.
