The Shape Up

I am already learning so much about being a land owner. There are so many projects before you even get to why you want to live in the country, on a piece of land. Whew, let me tell you. I’ve watched so many youtube videos to sort of give me some idea of what I was about to get into. But, I can already tell that most of this education is going to be hands on.

The 14 acres that I purchased came out of a 57 acre tract. The previous owners were using part of it as a homestead and the other 33 as agriculture land. They ran cattle and grew wheat on it. It’s all very beautiful! I don’t think I really knew what 5 acres looked like , let alone 14, It’s huge!

Prior to my offer on the land, I noticed the listing said it had water, and electricity, and no septic. My realtor told me that this was really good because there were a lot of land listings that didn’t have anything but raw land.

I don’t know what I was thinking, but just because there’s water and electricity doesn’t mean that it’s simple to access it, more on that in a later post.

Also all of the trees and grass. There was so much that needed to be done with clearing and raising up the tree line. There is a large pole barn that needs rehab, and another half-barn shed which may have to be torn down.

We also have a pond, with a trench filled with trees and water that leads up to the pond.

We began clearing the property about a week ago. That included canopying trees so you could see underneath them and through out the length of the property. (We don’t want nothing to have a hiding place : ).

Let me add, I am not doing this alone. My brother n law has been helping us, as well as my Real-estate Broker. I am so grateful that I do not have to do this alone. My brother n law has done this kind of work for many years, and my real estate Broker has lived on 28 acres for over 10 years. So I do have some experienced people holding my hand!
