Mobile Home Trim Out

The count down is on yall! We have 3 weeks before we move onto our new homestead. While getting this property together, I’ve learned so much! I plan to do some detailed videos for those who are interested in this simple country life style for themselves.

A handful of folks have told me they are seriously considering buying land and living on it in the future. I want to share my experience to help inspire and inform. There is no way to be fully prepared unless you know someone whose gone through all of it, and It’s a lot! Lol.

But more on that later, Lets talk about this trim out!

First understand that unlike a stick-build, aka a traditional house, most of the construction of a MH is done inside a factory. The build is a lot quicker because there are no weather delays. You can have a Manufactured Home (This is the correct term) in about 4 to 6 months. Fyi, the term mobile home, technically changed after 1976. Hud stepped in and implemented solid regulations to make them safer to live in.

After your manufactured home is constructed, delivery is set up. Depending on how far it has to be driven, it can really shake stuff around. Ours came from about 2 1/2 hours away. When it arrived there were a lot of hanging trim, and beams that shifted. Also, they don’t finish out some of the larger pieces of wood trim for this reason.

Once your house is leveled, and the utilities (electric, plumbing, septic) is done the builder comes back for the Trim Out ( making it neater and nicer). Unlike a site construction of a stick build, all the contractors are independent.

Now that our Trim Out is done, we’re clear to move in, with some trailing repairs that are pending, due to needed parts.

So yall we are now on to the next steps! We are building a wrap around porch with a ramp, so my hubby who uses a wheelchair, can get in! (Very important lol).

We are forging ahead people. I’m getting excited, and praying that I can get some fall seeds in the ground to get this homestead started off right!

Until our next post!
