“Will you Start a Garden?”
It’s funny how you start out thinking you know all the why’s, and it quickly becomes more obvious what the bigger picture is. As you probably read in earlier blog posts. I decided to move myself, my husband, nephew and Mother to the country in rural North Dallas.
My initial reason: I wanted a simpler life, a life that was a lot less expensive with less stuff that I didn’t need, and just live. That’s it. That’s all.
I didn’t have any grand ideas of starting a garden and trying to live off the land.
However, to my surprise, the more I am on the land preparing for our move I began to realize what I have, and what I can do with it. Why pay the grocery stores for veggies, fruits, eggs, and poultry when I could try to grow and raise them myself? Now, I’m not crazy. I am going to start small and build up, so God only knows how long it will take me to get us where we need to be.
I wanted to educate myself so I found these three resources via recommendation from some other long-term homesteaders on youtube:
Raised Bed Gardening
Self-Suffeciency in the 21st Century
Growing Flavor
We’re going to see what I can do. : ) It’s a journey within a journey!
So what about you, do you have a garden? If not, have you ever considered trying to supplement your family’s food source by gardening?
